Badger Girls Split on the Road at Michigan TechJohn MacInnes Arena

February 3-4: After seven hours on the road, Tara Machak fired a rebound shot just :11 seconds in to the game, but MTU stormed back to defeat the Badgers 5-2 on Saturday. The Badgers turned it up on Sunday taking game two 4-3 in Houghton, Mich (UP). The Badgers improve to a 14-3-0 overall record (6-2-0 in the ACHA).

Anne Woll picked MTU defenseman off the opening draw and fired a shot that Tara Machak hammered home just :11 seconds into the contest. Tech answered back in the first on a close range shot in traffic. Tech then pounded goalie Meliisa Wilking with 24 second period shots and three goals. Then Tech scored another goal early in the third. Anne Woll scored the Badgers second and final goal as Tech outshot UW 42 to 19. "We came out that first shift flying and then played flat the rest of the game. We were not focused at all. They won the battles and beat us to the puck all night. Four of their goals came right in front of our net. We pretty much got it handed to us... It kind of made Sundays objective simple." - uschan

Sundays game had a reversal of attack. UW jumped to a 2-0 lead on goals from Kelly Vruwink and Anne Woll. Tech picked up a late first period goal from Molly Roskela (who would go on and score all three MTU goals). Roseann Meyer slapped a 18 footer over MTUs goalie in the second to puck UW out to a 3-1 lead. "We were the team I am used to see playing. I think after break and playing a lower leveled ISU team, we were lazy on Saturday. We won the battles we needed to. The girls played with a lot of pride. I changed up our Defensive zone coverage and everyone picked up our zone much better" - uschan. MTU wasted only :11 seconds to score in the third period closing the gap to 3-2. Anne Woll netted the game winner on a backhand rush and Melissa Wilking held off all but one more goal to stop the MTU last minute attack. "I fely MTU was a good squad. I give them credit, they have some speedy players" -uschan.

UW closes out their series 3-1-0 against MTU.
